Principal
Jonathan O'Loughlin
Jonathan O’Loughlin founded O’Loughlin Westhoff in 2017. Having acted on both sides of the fence in many high-profile ASIC investigations and disputes, Jonathan is able to offer unique and invaluable advice in managing regulatory matters. In addition, Jonathan runs a broader-based commercial litigation practice, with significant experience in financial services, taxation disputes, ASIC investigations and insolvency.
Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Medical Science, a Juris Doctor, and Master of Law (Taxation) and is admitted to practice in the New South Wales Supreme Court, Federal Court, and High Court of Australia.
Jonathan’s other passions include ultra-marathon running, having performed at the top level for many years – including representing Australia at the World Championships in 2016.
Senior Associate
Bart Dziubinski
Bart’s focus is primarily on litigation involving trusts, corporate law, equity, taxation, and financial services. Prior to taking up his position as a solicitor at O’Loughlin Westhoff, Bart served as a tipstaff to a Judge of Appeal of the New South Wales Court of Appeal and served a casual appointment as a tipstaff to a Judge of the Common Law Division of the New South Wales Supreme Court. Bart is also a casual academic at the University of Technology Sydney, where he teaches equity.
Bart graduated from the University of Technology Sydney with a Bachelor of Business (Economics) and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours Class I and University Medal) in 2019 and from the University of Oxford with a Bachelor of Civil Law (with Distinction) in 2021.
Special Counsel
Michael Baltins
Michael is a highly experienced litigator and litigation funder with over 10 years’ experience, having acted in numerous high-profile class actions and recovery actions in respect of ASX listed companies, managed investment schemes and providers of financial advice and services.
Michael’s experience includes all aspects of insolvency, trusts and equity, financial services, shareholder disputes, fraud, negligence, real property disputes, directors’ duties and insolvency related recovery actions and freezing orders. His expertise extends to acting for, and funding, insolvency practitioners, directors, shareholders, insurers, lenders, receivers and corporations. Michael has also acted on large scale and complex insolvencies involving ASX listed companies, managed investment schemes, property development companies, mining operations and retailers across a wide range of industries.
Michael is a member of the Australian Restructuring, Insolvency & Turnaround Association (ARITA), having completed the ARITA Advanced Certificate in Insolvency by way of post-graduate studies.
Associate
Joy Jia
Joy graduated from the University of Cambridge in July 2020, having read Law at Queens’ College as a Cambridge Trust Scholar, and joined O’Loughlin Westhoff in November 2020 as a Law Graduate.
Joy has previous experience as a legal research panellist at the Oxbridge Human Development Research Group, working with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and as a Law Clerk at 35 West Chambers in Brisbane, assisting counsel on a range of commercial and administrative law matters.
Joy is currently pursuing a Master of Laws in International Law at the Australian National University.
Paralegal
Wendy Schreuder
Wendy has been a paralegal at the firm since mid-2022. She is currently pursuing a Diploma in Law through the Legal Profession Admission Board at the University of Sydney.
Wendy has a range of prior legal experience in the Netherlands having gained both a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Employment Law at Leiden University. She has worked as an external court clerk for the Court of the Hague, concerning issues of civil, tenancy, family, and criminal law. Wendy also worked for the Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations, assisting the legal department of the central government regarding complex issues of labour law. Wendy also has gained experience through a traineeship at a law firm in the Netherlands and has continued her interest in litigation at O’Loughlin Westhoff.
Paralegal
Alex Pellegriti
Alex is an enthusiastic paralegal who is currently completing a Bachelor of Business Bachelor Laws degree at University of Technology Sydney. During his studies, he has achieved several academic accolades such as the Dux of the College Award and the Premier’s Award for All-Round Excellence.
Alex has an exceptional work ethic and analytical abilities to effectively carry out administration support and provide assistance with complex financial matters and ASIC Investigations. Since joining the firm, he has developed a strong interest in insolvency law, contractual disputes and commercial litigation. Alex hopes to broaden his legal knowledge to exceed expectations for clients and positively contribute to a cutting-edge legal firm.
